    Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital bronchoscopy robot reaches 100 patient milestone 14 May 2026 Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) has reached an impressive 100‑patient milestone with its new robotic bronchoscopy. This groundbreaking technology is helping clinicians diagnose and remove small cancerous nodules in the peripheral lung, where conventional biopsy tools face limitations. Minister of Health for Medical Research, the Hon Stephen Dawson, visited SCGH to acknowledge the milestone and see firsthand the remarkable work of the teams involved. "This Western Australian-first program has already benefited the lives of 100 people, and I congratulate and thank all those involved at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital for driving the vision and delivering leading-edge patient outcomes," said Minister Dawson.     Silent Disco a success at Graylands Hospital 29 November 2023 A new initiative involving silent disco technology is being used to help improve patient experience and engagement at Graylands Hospital. A three-month trial using silent disco headphones began in September and is proving to be successful as a therapeutic activity for inpatients. Occupational Therapy Manager Tamara Rouen said the technology can help promote wellbeing, reduce stress and aggression, enhance emotional expression and improve patient engagement. "It can also help with coping and self-regulation in what can be a noisy and chaotic ward environment at times," Tamara said. "Graylands Hospital is trialling this technology in a range of areas including mindfulness and meditation, physical exercise, self-esteem, stress management, education sessions and group therapy.     Congratulations WA Mental Health Award winner Dan Cazangiu 27 November 2023 Dan Cazangiu has been awarded the Lived Experience Impact and Inspiration Award at the annual WA Mental Health Awards held at the Hyatt on Thursday night 23 November. Dan works as a mentor and peer worker for the Start Court program. The North Metropolitan Health Service won two awards with King Edward Memorial Hospital Perinatal and Infant Mental Health program coordinator Leanda Verrier taking the Mental Health Employee or Volunteer Excellence Award. Hosted by the Western Australian Association for Mental Health (WAAMH) the Awards recognise and reward the achievements of those who demonstrate excellence, innovation and initiative in supporting consumers of mental health services, their families and carers.   • Dental staff supporting victims of family and domestic violence 24 November 2023 With 25 November marking the start of 16 Days in WA, we are highlighting some of the activities being undertaken across the organisation to help stop violence against women. Some of our staff at Dental Health Service volunteer their time to support victims of family and domestic violence, by providing free private dental services as part of the Healing Smiles Organisation. The Perth-based Health Smiles Organisation provides dental services to people who are unable to access treatment because of financial, physical or emotional limitations. Suanne said she first heard about Healing Smiles at an event in 2021 and decided to volunteer. “It is so rewarding to be able to provide services to people who couldn’t otherwise have access to them.     Celebrating our dedicated staff 21 November 2023 Congratulations to Sangeetha Ganesan, Business Systems Officer in the Business Information and Performance team, who was awarded the NMHS Corporate Employee of the Season for Djilba. Sangeetha was nominated for her instrumental role in assisting the NMHS HEART team with the Ward Patient Flow Progress dashboard and the updated HEART performance dashboard. These dashboards have created visibility and transparency to key patient flow metrics as well as allowing the HEART and MNHS teams to measure and report high level emergency access measures to the NMHS Board and Minister for Health.
