    Life-saving care following recent birth 29 May 2025 A young family have praised the life-saving care provided by King Edward Memorial Hospital and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital following the recent birth of their third child. During a 20-week scan, mum Emily was diagnosed with a rare pregnancy complication known as placenta increta, where the placenta embeds too deeply into the wall of the uterus. King Edward Memorial Hospital Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Dr Mathias Epee said the rare disease can cause major problems for both the mother and the baby. "The condition affects 1 in every 500 pregnancies and is one of the most complex challenges in obstetrics today."     Graylands volunteer reflects on 45-years supporting patients 24 January 2023 At 97-years-old, Floreat resident Edna Prosser has been volunteering at Graylands Hospital for more than 45 years and hopes to continue for as long as she can. Mrs Prosser recently announced her retirement as the President of Graylands Hospital Volunteer Services after 35 years, but she will stay on as a committee member. The dedicated nonagenarian works in the op-shop twice a week and has enjoyed roles helping in the kiosk and cake stalls at fundraisers. “Originally I started volunteering when my daughter finished St Mary’s school in the mid-1950s,” Mrs Prosser said. “We used to sew and repair clothes and make cushions for patients.” Mrs Prosser said the best thing about volunteering was meeting people. “It is also good to have something you are committed to do,” she said.     REDCap award for NMHS Senior Scientist 14 December 2022 Clinical Research Centre (CRC) Acting Manager, Dr Milan Dragovic, has been recognised as the most helpful REDCap User for 2022 at the WA Health REDCap Symposium of 2022. Dr Dragovic, a Senior Scientist, has been actively involved in implementing the REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture) System since 2016. The award highlights the level of knowledge Milan has around the program, and how pivotal he has been in training and promoting the use of the REDCap System across WA. "The REDCap service has been adopted widely across our service," Milan said. "I feel grateful that my passion and relentless advocating of this wonderful service has been recognised."     NMHS Junior Medical Officer Manifesto 14 December 2022 The NMHS is wholeheartedly committed to leading the way as the employer of choice and ensuring that all Junior Medical Officers (JMO) are valued as integral members of the NMHS family. The NMHS JMO Manifesto has been developed in collaboration with our Junior Doctors and Doctors in training, Charlies RMO Society, Senior Clinicians and the Australian Medical Association (AMA).     Osborne Park Hospital receives new state-of-the-art CT scanner 14 December 2022 The Radiology department at Osborne Park Hospital is officially home to a brand new, cutting edge Computed Tomography (CT) scanner. The new Canon Aquilion ONE Genesis unit took almost five weeks to install. It is deemed to be one of the most advanced systems in WA Health, and will provide a significant range of benefits to patients. Harnessing the power of Artificial Intelligence for deep learning reconstruction (DLR), the CT scanner achieves high quality images at a fast rate whilst emitting a very low dose of radiation. The capabilities of the new equipment will also enable a broader range of scans to be performed at OPH.   • Dental services at Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service
    Derbarl Yerrigan goes mobile 08 December 2022 Dental services at Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service have gone mobile while the East Perth centre is renovated. When the renovations were announced, dental staff requested assistance from Dental Services to help them continue their service. Dental Services were able to provide a mobile van, which was painted by students at Clontarf Aboriginal Centre. Dental staff will be able to offer culturally appropriate dental services from the van until early January. Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service provides culturally secure primary health, mental health and dental services for Aboriginal families living in the Perth metropolitan area.
