Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital

Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (external site) is one of Australia's leading tertiary hospitals that provides an extensive range of services. The Hospital has over 600 beds and employs approximately 5,500 staff who treat more than 420,000 patients every year.

SCGH opened in 1958 and was named in honour of Sir Charles Gairdner, the Governor of Western Australia from 1951 to 1963. It is located at the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre, four kilometres from Perth city centre.

SCGH provides a comprehensive range of clinical services including trauma, emergency and critical care, orthopaedics, general medicine, general surgery and cardiac care. It is home to WA's only comprehensive cancer centre - the largest cancer treatment centre in the State and is the State's principal hospital for neurosurgery and liver transplants.

SCGH was ranked among the worlds’ best hospitals list 2019 and is one of only three in Australia to achieve Magnet Recognition™ for nursing excellence, the highest level of nursing excellence awarded internationally.
