About our services
The Western Australian (WA) State Forensic Mental Health Service (SFMHS) provides specialist services to individuals with a mental illness and high-risk behaviours who are involved in the criminal justice system or at risk of serious offending.
Our state-wide services, comprised of inpatient, community, court, prison in-reach and detention centre-based programs, provide a range of evidence informed interventions and treatments to adults, children and adolescents with complex mental health needs and challenging behaviours, risks and presentations.

WA State Forensic Mental Health Services are going through a period of substantial expansion.
The North Metropolitan Health Service is currently part of a significant statewide transformation of forensic mental health services. This is through the introduction of the Criminal Law Mental Impairment Act (CLMI) 2023 on 1 September 2024 and the Graylands Reconfiguration and Forensics Project (GRAFP). Both will result in substantial growth of the forensic mental health workforce.
