Congratulations to clinical nurse specialist Elaine - our 'Djeran' winner of the NMHS Mental Health, Public Health, Dental Services Employee of the Season! Elaine forms part of the senior nursing team at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital mental health service. You may remember Elaine's colleague Priscilla won the Employee of Bunuru (last season's award). Two wins in a row for SCGH mental health unit is a testament to the integrity and strength of our mental health nurses. Elaine is a natural leader, teacher and mentor to staff, students and graduates and believes in staff doing their best despite what can be, sometimes challenging situations. Graduate Midwife of the Year 21 May 2021 Congratulations to NMHS team member and KEMH Midwife Lisa Burt for winning the Graduate Midwife of the Year award at the WA Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards (external site) Gala Ball on Saturday night at Crown Perth. Lisa was recognised for being a self-motivated, optimistic graduate committed to fostering a positive, productive workplace culture. Lisa’s nominator said “Her touch is felt by those she comes into daily contact with; be it women or colleagues but also as a voice and advocate for those upon the country we birth, Whadjuk Noongar. ECU honours Anita Clayton 19 May 2021 On the 30 March 2021, retired nurse Anita Clayton received the 2020 Community Alumni Award from Edith Cowan University at a gala event held at the WA Museum Boola Bardip. The Community Alumni Award recognises ECU alumni who have made an extraordinary impact in the field of equality, diversity and social responsibility. Professor Steve Chapman, ECU Vice-Chancellor, cited Anita’s tireless work with disadvantaged populations. “She has left a legacy for nurses and the wider community through her compassion and professionalism in providing care for vulnerable populations across remote, rural and urban settings in Australia.” UK born Anita completed her nursing training in London before migrating to Australia with her husband James. Celebrating our dedicated staff! 18 May 2021 Congratulations to Gareth Thomas, Maintenance Technician from Facilities Management, our NMHS Corporate Employee of the Quarter. Gareth is an employee worthy of recognition as going above and beyond is way of life for Gareth. It is evident from his colleagues that Gareth strives to provide a service rather than just completing a job. He does this regardless of whether he is dealing with a manager, taking direction from a supervisor or answering a request from colleagues or other NMHS team members. His communication skills and the way he conducts himself is polite, respectful, humble and professional and his optimistic attitude continues to make a positive difference at work.
