Silent Disco a success at Graylands Hospital
A new initiative involving silent disco technology is being used to help improve patient experience and engagement at Graylands Hospital.
A three-month trial using silent disco headphones began in September and is proving to be successful as a therapeutic activity for inpatients.
Occupational Therapy Manager Tamara Rouen said the technology can help promote wellbeing, reduce stress and aggression, enhance emotional expression and improve patient engagement.
"It can also help with coping and self-regulation in what can be a noisy and chaotic ward environment at times," Tamara said.
"Graylands Hospital is trialling this technology in a range of areas including mindfulness and meditation, physical exercise, self-esteem, stress management, education sessions and group therapy.
"The idea had been on the back burner for some time, but support from Acting Adult Inpatient Co-Director Jill Spears and the Graylands management team we were able to bring it to the wards."
