    Abbie explains how career progression is a focus at SCGH 10 November 2025 With a range of nursing opportunities currently available at Sir Charles Gardiner (SCGH) and Osborne Park Hospitals (OPH), Abbie shares what she loves about working as a newly-qualified nurse for the organisation. After completing her final student placement at SCGH, Abbie was offered a position on the same ward as a newly qualified registered nurse at the beginning of 2024. "I have received continuous support from the team and really feel this was essential in my career progression," Abbie said. With guidance of the team, Abbie was able to complete further training such as Hospital Advanced Life Support within her first year of her qualification, which allowed her to obtain crucial skills.     Neurodiverse-ED creates supportive environment for Emergency Department staff 17 March 2025 In a first for the organisation, neurodivergent staff and allies working in the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital Emergency Department now have the opportunity to join Neurodiverse-ED. The initiative was launched by ED nurses Lexi, Kelsie and Emily, as a way to provide support to neurodiverse staff in their department. Kelsie said whilst group members share different motivating factors to get involved with the group they all share the common goal to build a community to support the growing neurodiversity population of staff (and patients) in the Emergency Department. Group members are given the opportunity to openly share supportive advice, tips and strategies on self-regulation and managing difficult situations in the workplace, as well as strategies to improve communication.   • Professor Graeme Hankey
    Neurologist and researcher recognised with Officer of the Order of Australia 31 January 2025 Congratulations to Professor Graeme Hankey who last weekend received the Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for distinguished service to medicine as a neurologist and stroke physician, to research, and as an editor and author. Professor Hankey is a highly regarded member of the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) Department of Neurology, having worked a Consultant Physician from 2013 to 2023 and as a Professor of Neurology at The University of Western Australia during the same period. In 2023, Professor Hankey was appointed the inaugural UWA Perron Institute Chair in Stroke Research, where he runs large international trials while training up the next generation of neurologists.   • Deck the wards winners
    Staff deck the wards this Christmas 23 December 2024 The halls, walls and doors were adorned with colour and sparkle this month to spread magic and cheer to our patients and staff this Christmas. Teams across all sites adopted themes that included gingerbread houses, a candy lane, an enchanted Christmas Forest, the Polar Express and a soft hearted grinch even made several appearances. The elaborate decorations brightened the wards for patients, clients, visitors, families and staff, but there was certainly a competitive spirit among the teams that had many keeping their eye on the prizes from our generous sponsors.
