Graduate Midwife of the Year
Congratulations to NMHS team member and KEMH Midwife Lisa Burt for winning the Graduate Midwife of the Year award at the WA Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards (external site) Gala Ball on Saturday night at Crown Perth.
Lisa was recognised for being a self-motivated, optimistic graduate committed to fostering a positive, productive workplace culture.
Lisa’s nominator said “Her touch is felt by those she comes into daily contact with; be it women or colleagues but also as a voice and advocate for those upon the country we birth, Whadjuk Noongar. Her gentle presence across the continuum, allows a sense of trust and humanity to her practise we can all learn from.”
Lisa’s commitment to woman-centred care is commendable, with a significant example also being cited on the night. After sitting with a lady to develop rapport and meet her individual emotional, cultural and social needs Lisa organised for an Aboriginal woman who was far from her rural community to receive a bush tucker meal.
We also wish to acknowledge three other NMHS team members who were named WA Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards finalists:
- Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital’s Veronica Keys for Excellence in Aboriginal Health;
- King Edward Memorial Hospital’s (then-NICU) Jeremy Johnson for Excellence in Registered Nursing, and
- DonateLife WA’s Melissa Smith for Excellence in Leadership.
Well done to all of you for upholding our NMHS Values and being recognised for excellence in health care, as well as helping us to build healthy and engaged communities by placing our consumers’ and their carers’ best interests and experience at the core of all we do.
