Welcome to our 2026 medical interns
Last week 105 medical interns began their careers with us, welcomed by Sir Charles Gairdner Osborne Park Health Care Group (SCGOPHCG) Executive Director Dr Jodi Graham and North Metropolitan Health Service (NMHS) Area Director Clinical Services Dr Simon Wood.
We are one of the biggest training sites for interns in the state, with a program offering a wide range of opportunities and support.
Dr Wood said our medical interns undertake a diverse set of rotations including 10 weeks in both a core medicine and surgery department, and a minimum of eight weeks in emergency medicine.
“The variety of rotations gives great experience, exposure and training for our next generation of doctors across metro, rural, and private sites,” he said.
Our comprehensive program for junior doctors includes rotations at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Osborne Park Hospital, Kind Edward Memorial Hospital, Joondalup Health Campus and WA Country Health Service.
Dr Wood said we are very focussed on supporting and training our junior medical officers (JMO), which has led to North Metropolitan Health Service being named Employer of Choice by our JMO over the past three years.
“Our award-winning JMO Manifesto program champions flexible working, a strong workplace culture and other benefits to help interns get their career off to the best possible start,” he said.
“It all forms part of our focus on supporting the next generation of doctors.”
