Refugee Week 14-20 June 2020
Refugee week runs from Sunday June 14 to Saturday June 20, 2020 with the theme 'Year of Welcome'. The Week runs across Australia annually and celebrates the positive contributions made by refugees to Australian society. Refugee Week aims to create a culture of welcome for refugees throughout the country.
The Humanitarian Entrant Health Service (HEHS), previously known as the Migrant Health Unit, has been providing post-arrival health care to refugees settling in Western Australia for over 40 years.
While COVID-19 has placed refugee arrival into WA temporarily on hold, HEHS continues to support existing clients with their health care needs.
In 2019, HEHS provided services to people from 24 different countries around the globe. In addition, HEHS prides itself on being a culturally diverse organisation. HEHS held a morning tea in celebration of Refugee Week on Friday 19 June where Anita Clayton Centre staff members shared a meal and stories from their cultures to build empathy and understanding of the migrant experience.
