Gynaecological Cancer Nurse Coordination Service
Support for people with gynaecologic cancers
Approximately 430 women are diagnosed with gynaecologic cancer in Western Australia each year. A gynaecologic cancer is a cancer of the female reproductive system or genitals and includes cancers of the uterus (womb), cervix, ovary, fallopian tube, primary peritoneal, vagina, vulva and gestational trophoblastic disease.
This service is available Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) 8.30am to 4.30pm and can be contacted on: 6457 0855 or mobile 0400 021 857.
Diagnosis
Diagnosing a gynaecologic cancer may take time and require several investigations and procedures before a diagnosis is confirmed.
These may include:
- Blood tests
- Imaging (e.g. Ultrasound, CT, MRI, PET scan)
- Tissue Biopsy or Fluid Sample
- Staging Surgery
Treatment
Following a diagnosis, your treating team will develop a treatment plan. Treatment will depend on the type and stage of the cancer and may include surgery, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy or radiation therapy. Treatments may be alone or in combination and may involve seeing several specialists in a variety of settings.

The Gynaecology Cancer Nurse Coordination Service is a free state-wide service aimed at supporting you and your family through diagnosis and treatment.
This service supports patients who are having their treatment in the public hospital system.
The specialist gynaecology Nurse Coordinators are available to:
- Explain and provide information on your diagnosis and treatment.
- Refer, liaise, and link you with other services and health professionals as appropriate.
- Assist you with the coordination of cancer related appointments.
- Be a point of contact throughout your treatment phase.
